Welcome to The Major BBS Test Drive Version 6.2. This archive contains a
working version of The Major BBS that will give you a taste of how it works
and what can be done with this software. We have also included an ASCII
version of the Quick Start booklet that describes the Test Drive and The
Major BBS in more detail.
You can print the Quick Start for easier reference by opening the file in
your favorite editor or word processor or typing COPY QWKSTART.ASC LPT1:
To use this Test Drive, you will need the following:
- A 386 or better IBM-compatible computer
- 4 megabytes of RAM or more
- DOS 5 or higher
Installation:
-------------
Two formatted, high-density 3.5" floppy disks (1.44MB) will be needed to
install this program. If you do not have high-density 3.5" floppy disks,
refer to the Alternate Installation Instructions below.
1) Put a fresh formatted floppy disk in drive A: or in drive B:.
2) Uncompress DISK1.ZIP to the disk as follows:
PKUNZIP DISK1.ZIP A: (or PKUNZIP DISK1.ZIP B:)
3) Remove the first disk from your floppy drive and replace it with the
other fresh formatted floppy disk.
4) Uncompress DISK2.ZIP to the disk as follows:
PKUNZIP DISK2.ZIP A: (or PKUNZIP DISK2.ZIP B:)
5) Remove Disk 2 from the floppy drive and put Disk 1 back in.
6) Type A:INSTALL (or B:INSTALL) and press RETURN to start the installation.
This process will guide you through the rest of the installation and
configuration steps needed for The Major BBS Test Drive.
That will do it! Please refer to the Quick Start documentation for more
details on how to use the Test Drive.
Alternate Installation Instructions
-----------------------------------
1) Create a temporary directory to hold the installation files:
MD \MBBSTEMP
2) Uncompress the DISK*.ZIPs to that directory as follows:
PKUNZIP DISK*.ZIP \MBBSTEMP
3) Type \MBBSTEMP\INSTALL and press RETURN to start the installation. This
process will guide you through the rest of the installation and
configuration steps needed for The Major BBS Test Drive.
4) After installation, delete the contents of the \MBBSTEMP directory and
remove the directory itself. (DOS 6 users can use DELTREE \MBBSTEMP)
That will do it! Please refer to the Quick Start documentation for more
details on how to use the Test Drive.
